Re: Best vintage keyboard without spending life's savings?
I think youthful exposure to Model Ms really alters the equation. I grew up in the 1980s/90s, ironically just an hour away from (IBM's European production centre) Greenock but I don’t recall any experience with Model M before I got into keyboards in 2013 or so. In fact, I'd already been spoiled by ...

I opened up Discord for the first time in an age and added you by username. It's… a fidgety app for my liking, but evidently everyone's gone somewhere.

Re: Ursa
I certainly like the R4 features. I like an understated design so this one seems to call to me, especially in black, now I've killer caps for it.
If you see some discount Realforces from previous generations, do share. R4's sold out in Japan so I'll be waiting a while to strike lucky.

You just need to be an "influencer" and you'll get the nice toys, too.

So I looked. The Realforce R4 is just out and all the more compelling for me now I have these caps.

Even as a mod I have lost access to most mod functions.
The "Fobidden" error page we all see so very often now?
I find using the back button in your web browser will often work around it, and other times just delete everything after ?sid= in the url and you'll get through.
It's clearly just ...

I might be after a full-size Realforce now, as long as it's ANSI. Say, where in the world are you? Nowhere near Scotland, right?BucklingSpring wrote: 12 Dec 2025, 01:39 Topre RealForce x4 (87U 55g/Digilog case, 103U-UW & 104UG High-Profile x2)
Re: Ursa
Yeah, your R2 would need the Extension, Mods and Alphas kits. The mods kit is just this:
https://doexyae99uah1.cloudfront.net/renders/kits/thumb-mods.png
Enough for an HHKB or FC660C but not a Realforce's worth of keys.
I'd recommend the red or blue mods over the classic greys, myself. The ...

Thanks, Andy. These caps were Christmas come early—I'd almost forgotten all about them—and I couldn't contain myself. Had to take pix and had to flaunt them! It was actually a good thing they came after dark as they look just magnificent in flash instead of pale winter daylight.

Re: New switches for an older timer
Speaking as another old-timer, the kind of linear switch I'd be interested in would be super smooth (obviously) and nicely damped on both ends of the stroke. Something with a real solidity to its slider, too, like it's on a metal rail. No wobble. No bullshit. And ideally, yes, indirect sensing ...

I had fun shooting these , still with the same old kit, I might add. That flash works wonders in the darkness! Kinda has me tempted to look at a mirrorless body to go with my old glass.

Grind that ISO axe good and sharp!

Or even better: use the Bluetooth or supplied little dongle to avoid a cable outright.
They're USB C on the back. Bring your own artisan-made coiled cable, as desired.Findecanor wrote: 30 May 2024, 16:12 A lost opportunity to not make the charging cable a coiled cable, IMHO, BTW.

"Custom" third-party keyboards are a thing on iOS. I've only lightly dabbled with them on iPhone. Maybe there's something with a better layout for you out there, or ideally: a configurable keyboard you can design your own layouts for. Imagine!

So, I've been busy lately. One small project was helping out my brother with a control panel for his garage. He's got an electric door opener but the remotes are fiddly and the motor itself is positioned right above the car so it's hard to reach. Besides, when closing it in windy conditions, the ...

Looks like the pre-orders are live now, and with more interesting colour ways than I feared. Phew! I might just go in for a Minicom kit. I’ve only got the one black Topre after all.

Hmm. I’m not instinctively in favour of this. It breaks the instant reward for real users who have just signed up so they can post something, as their post will have to wait for a moderator to show up. And you know a good way to get a mod to sign in? Seeing spam in the forum spy!
