That would still be great for me! And I like the no-matrix idea, both for simplicity and also because these are likely to be used as modifiers.

I think finger keys are the most likely use, so I would use keyboard timing. Unless the debounce times could be configurable on a per-input basis.

I have often thought of pedals, but, more than fidgeting, feet are much slower than hands, and (perhaps most importantly), the coordination between hands and feet is really slow, and coordination speed is really important in terms of modifiers. It feels like you can press 4 or 5 keys with your hands ...

There is still some work that can be done on keyboard layouts, but it may be safe to say that the 'big' jump towards improvement has already been made and future layout improvement will probably be relatively minor. At some point it will be a zero net gain.

Thanks; that's good news. All my keyboards are either native PS/2 or include an adapter in the box, which should be enough for now. WASD claims NKRO over the included hunk-o-plastic PS/2 adapter, which should make an interesting test.

OK...sounds like maybe that's the way to go. I made a new thread about how to interface to the matrix of an existing keyboard; feel free to post any suggestions or links.

Kind of a basic question, but if I wanted to replace the controller in various keyboards (old Model M, new Unicomp Model M, Scorpius, WASD), how easy is it to find headers to mate with the existing matrix? The mylar with white conductive traces is not amenable to conventional soldering.
