Re: Deskthority has a new owner (again)

For anyone wondering why this site was down (assuming it comes up again) or you're one of the administrators :

If you're going to use DNS servers for your domain which themselves have hostnames which are part of the same domain, you will need to configure the glue records for ...

Re: NEC Multispeed Alps Keyboard Conversion to USB

I realise I am necroing this thread but I thought a bit more info might fill out what is in here and help anyone else who is looking into this as well.

I've got the same keyboard, except for some reason the motherboard on mine is green and the shape of the board is a little different :

Re: [WTB] [EU-AT] Apple ADB cable + Adapter

For what it's worth, ADB and S-video are pretty much interchangeable.

Not all S-video cables though. Some cheapo ones short the two ground pins together, which will damage your keyboard. Check with a multimeter before using to ensure a 1-to-1 mapping (each pin only connects to the same pin and ...

Re: Filco modding project ••• step one: help with cable :(

I actually made this very modification to a Filco Majestouch 2 Hakua that I purchased second hand a few years ago. I cut the cable and soldered on a USB-C female port. I got the instructions to do so from a youtube video. It's taken me a few days to find the link again, but here it is :

Re: Genius Mouse

This was actually the first mouse I ever had. This would have been about 1989. The only difference was that mine had lighter grey mouse buttons and a matching lighter grey cover for the mouse ball. Mine also had the original 25-pin serial connector as it was used on an XT PC at the time (the first ...

Re: Cloudfare

In a wild turn of events, onecommerce people are posting in the Keyboard Institute discord about Deskthority rather than like, actually updating people about the website on the website, so I'll relay it.

I've actually noticed something similar on one of the servers I manage. The traffic is from ...

Re: Cloudfare

My 2 cents on this -

People in general only put their sites behind Cloudflare for 2 reasons :

a. caching
b. DDOS protection

Setting up your site with Cloudflare doesn't mean that by default you will always have it check if you're a bot each time anyone connect to it, like DT does now. Someone had ...

Re: Future of DT

There were some site bugs with registration I remember, especially with certain domain names like gmail, for example.
This isn't an issue with the site or server. This is a DNS issue...one that has been discussed here in the past, would likely take 5 minutes to fix, but current owners don't ...

Re: Modern switch closest to the Alps Salmon or Oranges switches in the AEK

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the difference between the black and orange alps mostly comes down to the slider, click leaf and possibly the spring isn't it? Wouldn't it then be simpler to switch (no pun intended) those between the Dell AT101W switches and the ones in the AEK and achieve the same ...

Re: Modern switch closest to the Alps Salmon or Oranges switches in the AEK

Ok, here is what I am looking for:

1. ALPS Orange or Salmon or similar tactile switches
2. 100% full size with Windows/Super keys.
3. Programmable, so either USB with QMK/VIAL or PS/2 with a Soarer's Converter
4. Separate left and right modifier keys, so I can program them individually ...

Re: Modern switch closest to the Alps Salmon or Oranges switches in the AEK

Honestly your best bet if you don't want to solder is to go to a university computer engineering lab with a hundred bucks, 2 AEKs and a Dell AT101W, and pay those kids to put the switches from the Apple boards into the Dell.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the difference between the black and ...

Re: Modern switch closest to the Alps Salmon or Oranges switches in the AEK

I'm a long time lurker here but I only just recently got an account so I could contribute something back for all the knowledge I gleaned out of reading the posts here.

It might actually be possible to get what you want out of an AEK, but it takes a lot of work. I'm actually typing this on an AEK ...

Re: Apple Keyboard Extended II w/ Alps Salmon Switch vs. Apple Keyboard Extended II Alps Orange Switch vs. AKEII Alps M0

Mostly Topre boards - Realforce R2 and R3, Leopold fc660c. I *think* I prefer 45g, but I haven’t ruled out variable weight yet. I sometimes use the Matias Laptop Pro, but the Apple layout throws me. I’ve heard a solder bridge can convert it to Windows layout, but I haven’t learned soldering yet ...
