Have you considered the Griffin iMate? You can usually pick them up pretty cheap used (around £100 plus shipping).

I have both, and I really like both. I'd say salmon are a touch heavier but there's not a huge amount in it.
Normally I'd probably say whichever is in the best condition is probably going to be the nicer switch to use, but the waxboil technique will restore most switches to a decent condition now ...

Definitely boil them as Jack said. Depending on the condition of the switches you might find you don't need to wax the sliders as boiling seems to often reflow the factory lube (as opposed to ultrasonic cleaning which removes it).
And you shouldn't need to do any other cleaning to the sliders and ...
