"Neon gas plasma" would be the most appropriate - hence the amber/orange colour. The technology is almost identical to the later RGB PDPs, but much simpler and without the ability to display true black.

Back in the late 80s, this was far superior to any LCD type screen, although supertwist and ...

This is a different kind of plasma technology - think of it more like a flat panel neon bulb with a conductive matrix inside.

Although this type of screen lacks the resolution, colour capabilities or - as you say - contrast of modern PDPs, it has a very fast reaction time, which is a nice ...

Another ticket to the 80s - CAF ProLITE 286/16 with Cherry MX blues

Hi Folks.

I found this beauty on EBay, offered by a local powerseller, carelessly photographed, very dirty, with a horrifying crack on top of the display case and of course in 'unknown condition'.

However, I couldn't resist, and was rewarded instantly when the package arrived on Saturday evening ...

German Apple II+ clone with 2 keyboards

I just picked up an Apple II+ clone with a defective PSU, a very nice amber monitor and two keyboards.

One of the latter is named 'Operator' and seems to sport some kind of Cherry switches with double shot keycaps.

I will recap the PSU and the rest of the mainboard tonight and see if the thing ...

That means that I had not read your PM yet at that time. I have now. ;)

Excellent. :D

I'm looking forward to your reply; in the meanwhile I will continue my Retr0bright experiments with an old Amiga 1200 case and my AEKII. I hope my old home tanning bed from the late 80s won't fry everyting ...

I just sent you a PM, although it still rests in the 'outbox' instead of being listed under 'sent', whatever that means.

I found that also, but there are neither incredible heaps of vintage cabling nor an iMate included - and for almost €90 the deal is not *that* great. It's in my watchlist anyway, maybe then I'm drunk enough on the weekend I'll buy it half intentionally without remembering the next day. :D

Well, this perticular package was worth at least €100 IMHO. Silly me.

Apple Adjustable Keyboard M1242

Dammit, I overlooked a buy-it-how-auction ending midweek; now someone in Germany got an ISO M1242 with a lot of nice ADC cabling and - most importantly - a working Griffin iMate. Luckily, I already own an iMate, and just took it out of the cupboard with my beloved M3501 AEKII.

Just to adjust the ...

I'd be ver surprised if those are Navy switches. All the ones I've seen are almost black.

Although I have never seen the dark variant in RL, all the pictures confirm your impression. I just changed the wiki back to its previous state, except for the reference to the Highscreen versions of these ...

Now someone just listed a Bondwell B310 (of which all known devices sport indeed dark blue Cherry MX switches) on EBay, including a reference to the 'dark blue' switches, although the auction pictures are showing a switch which is very similar in color to the obscure Cherrys in my Bondwell B200 ...

Identify the switch

Hi folks.

After hastingly editing the Deskthority wiki entry for 'Cherry MX dark blue', a member of another forum brought to my attention that the switches I found under the keycaps of my ancient 8088 laptop might also be 'Cherry MX pale blues'.

It never occured to me they could be anything other ...

Someone gave an in-depth tour through the weird details of the above keyboard - or the respective B310-version of it, to be precise. http://imgur.com/gallery/nkiF7

I must say that I like the keycaps of the B310 even better. Maybe I will find one for another repair or conversion project.

However, there might also be MC blues out there; all you can type on them will rhyme and have a saddening undertone.

Thanks a lot, JP! and kbdfr. In fact, I am just posting this reply from the device and like it much more than I should. :D

However, updating the Deskthority wiki about the dark blue Cherrys did not work out well via Lynx, so I had to go back to my Mac again.

I do not have the slightest idea why the pictures, which are by the way much larger than they shoud be, are turned upside down in the inline view, but displayed correctly when opened by clicking on them.

Sorry for both things.

Ancient Laptop with a nice surprise

Hi folks.

I have been reading silently here for years - which might be an indicator for my slightly geekish tendencies, especially when it comes to HIDs, but also in other fields - maybe driving a sluggishly restored Delorean DMC12 as a semi daily driver might also count.

Speaking of sluggish ...
